Wilmoth Qualifies for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the Shot Put

HANOVER, Ind. – Junior Tommy Wilmoth returns to the NCAA Outdoor Championships after qualifying sixth in the shot put. Wilmoth will travel to Veteran's Memorial Field Sports Complex in La Crosse, Wisconsin on Friday, May 22 to compete in the event with prelims beginning at 3:00 PM.

IN THE RING

Tommy has been unstoppable in the ring this season setting a new Hanover standard. The junior broke the school record in the shot put on numerous occasions, including his sixth place ranking throw of 18.07 meters as part of the Billy Hayes Last Chance meet.

The mark also ranks first all-time among the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, breaking the previous record of 17.45 meters set in 2006.

The junior claimed the HCAC Outdoor crown for the second consecutive year with a meet record toss of 17.46 meters, breaking the previous record of 17.45 set by an athlete from Anderson in 2006.

SIZING UP THE FIELD
Tommy enters Friday ranked sixth overall. The leader and favorite to win the event enters the weekend with a personal best toss of 19.26 meters. Less than a half of a meter separate Tommy from a top five finish and All-American honors.

THE INDOOR SEASON
Wilmoth secured his career first All-American honor as part of the 2026 Indoor season where he finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 17.28 meters.
