HANOVER, Ind. – In a weather-shortened game, ultimately called due to lightning and darkness, the Hanover women's soccer team blanked DePauw (Ind.) in non-conference action Wednesday evening, 2-0.

With the late start, 6 p.m., two lightning delays put an end to the contest in the 74th minute. The Panthers improve to 2-1-0 on the season, while DePauw falls to 0-2-0.

In a competitively played first half, Hanover seemed to gain an edge in possession, leading to an 8-4 shot advantage. The pressure paid off right before intermission, at 43:08, as freshman Bryn Rolfsen (Loveland, Ohio) found the back of the net for her first collegiate goal. Rolfsen also assisted in the backend, giving Hanover its first clean sheet of the season.

As the two sides headed to the break, the first lightning delay began, pausing the match for nearly one hour. The two sides resumed second half play at 7:35 p.m. local time.

The Panthers continued to be aggressive both offensively and defensively in the second half, outshooting the Tigers, 7-3. For the match, HC held a 15-7 edge in total shots, including an 8-5 advantage on goal.

Hanover had an opportunity to make it a 2-0 contest in the 57th minute, but freshman Ruby Kate Gray's (Lexington, Ky.) penalty kick was saved in the lower right corner by the DePauw goalkeeper. The Panthers though, less than three minutes later, were able to net their second penalty kick try of the match, as junior Brandi Brock (Cincinnati, Ohio) saw her shot cross the goal line.

After the second HC score, the match continued for nearly 15 minutes with DePauw logging the only shot attempt. Freshman Amanda Carmosino (Noblesville, Ind.) turned away the try. Carmosino made five saves in the match, as she notched her first collegiate clean sheet. Through three matches and over 270 minutes, Carmosino now has a 0.66 goal against average and a save percentage nearing .860.

With visible lightning in the area once again, the match was called. Since NCAA guidelines require a match to go at least 70 minutes to count, Wednesday's contest is official in terms of records and statistics.

Leading the Panther shot advantage was Gray, who had four attempts in the match, including two on goal. Brock had two of her three shots come on goal as well. Although she did not score, freshman Autumn Boothby (Mount Orab, Ohio) added three shots.

The Blue and Red will now turn their attention to Sewanee (Tenn.) this Saturday, Sept. 8. Hanover and Sewanee are slated for a 1 p.m. start at the Panther Athletic Complex.
