LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Hanover baseball team headed south on Wednesday evening taking on the Pioneers of Transylvania. The Panthers dropped the doubleheader 11-8, 5-4.
GAME ONE
Transylvania claimed the early lead in game one using a four run first inning followed by a two run second inning to push the difference to 6-0. They would tack on three more runs before the Panthers responded in the top of the sixth inning.
Sophomore
Cole Sherman (Indianapolis, Ind.) plated the first run of the inning for Hanover as he reached home following an RBI walk by junior
Charlie Burton (Columbus, Ind.). The final two runs would come off the bat of freshman
Connor Farnsley (Jeffersonville, Ind.) who singled down the right field line scoring both sophomore Spencer Martinell (Indianapolis, Ind.) and senior
Zeke Porta (Louisville, Ky.), 10-3.
The Panthers carried the momentum into the seventh inning as freshman
Eric Roudebush (New Palestine, Ind.) homered to right field plating another run, 11-4.
Hanover looked to complete the comeback in the top of the ninth inning as junior
Andrew Littlefield (Louisville, Ky.) claimed his first RBI of the evening with a single to center that scored Roudebush. The final runs of the contest came off the bat of Burton who sent a shot over the fence that scored the final three baserunners as the Pioneers took game one, 11-8.
GAME TWO
The Panthers dominated the night cap early as Burton delivered his second homer of the series in the top of the first inning plating two runs for the Blue and Red, 2-0. However, Transylvania responded in the next half inning cutting the deficit to one run.
Hanover remained poise at the dish as Sherman provided a sacrifice fly that scored sophomore
Jake Brackett (Brownsburg, Ind.) to push the difference but again the Pioneers refused to go away as they were able to claim the 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning following a single to left field.
Brackett would plate the final run for the Panthers in the top of the eighth inning as he singled to left field knotting the contest at 4-4. Transylvania had other things in mind with their backs against the wall providing the game winning run in the bottom of the ninth en route to the sweep.
Hanover returns to action on Saturday, March 27 when they welcome Bluffton. Game time is set for 1:00 PM.
