Box Score 2 FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Hanover baseball team captured a split with area rival Franklin on Saturday afternoon dropping game one 9-8 before taking game two 8-1.
GAME ONE
Sophomore
Jake Brackett (Brownsburg, Ind.) provided the first run of the game in the top of the second inning as he scored sophomore
Le'ron Fleming (Indianapolis, Ind.), 1-0.
The Panthers continued to rally as sophomore
Cole Sherman (Indianapolis, Ind.) singled down the left field line scoring freshman Eric Roudebusch (New Palestine, Ind.) for the 2-0 advantage. However, Franklin responded plating a run of their own in the third to pull within 2-1.
Hanover added another strike in the top of the fifth inning before the Grizzlies exploded in the bottom half of the inning taking the 4-3 lead. They tacked on two more runs in the sixth for the convincing 7-3 advantage.
The Blue and Red refused to give up as Fleming hit a double scoring freshman
Connor Farnsley (Jeffersonville, Ind.) before Roudebusch provided an RBI to second base in the top of the seventh inning. Brackett added another RBI before Sherman dealt the final blow tying the score at 7-7.
Franklin would win the game in the bottom of the eighth inning as solo homerun sealed the 9-8 victory.
GAME TWO
The Panthers struck first in the contest as junior
Charlie Burton (Columbus, Ind.) hit a single to center field that scored senior
Zeke Porta (Louisville, Ky.). The excitement continued as a wild pitch sent junior
Andrew Littlefield (Louisville, Ky.) to the plate for the 2-0 advantage. The final run of the inning would come off the bat of freshman
Alex Christie (Greenwood, Ind.) who hit a sacrifice fly scoring Burton, 3-0.
Hanover tacked on two more runs in the top of the second inning as Farnsley singled to left field scoring both Burton and Littlefield, 5-0
Porta drew a walk in the top of the third inning that pushed the difference to 6-0. However, Franklin responded in the bottom half of the inning cutting the deficit to 6-1.
The top of the sixth inning would see the Panthers go to work once more as freshman
Brady Pennington (Speedway, Ind.) singled to left field scoring Christie for the game's final run, 8-1.
