Box Score 2 HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover baseball team welcomed Earlham in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Sunday afternoon as they rallied in the ninth inning to sweep the Quakers.
GAME ONE
Hanover plated the afternoon's first run in the bottom of the first inning as freshman
Connor Farnsley (Jeffersonville, Ind.) hit a shot to center field that scored junior
Charlie Burton (Columbus, Ind.) from second base, 1-0.
The Quakers responded in the next half inning as a Panther hiccup allowed for an Earlham run that knotted the contest at 1-1.
The bottom of the second inning would see the scoring frenzy continue as Burton hit a single up the middle that scored senior
Zeke Porta (Louisville, Ky.) before
Alex Christie singled through the right side pushing the HC lead to 3-1.
Hanover tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the third inning as freshman
Eric Roudebush (New Palestine, Ind.) doubled to left center scoring Farnsley. Sophomore
Cole Sherman (Indianapolis, Ind.) followed it up with an RBI of his own before Porta provided the final dagger off a double to left that pushed the HC difference to 6-1.
The Panthers added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as
Jacob Dupps reached home plate on a wild pitch before a Roudebusch walk scored Farnsley, 8-1.
Hanover added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning as Burton delivered a sacrifice fly that placed runners in scoring position. Porta plated the final run off the contest as he reached on a wild pitch for the 10-1 victory.
GAME TWO
Earlham surged ahead early in game two scoring one run in the top of the first inning before adding another run in the second inning for the 2-0 advantage.
However, Hanover got one run back in the third inning as sophomore
Cole Sherman (Indianapolis, Ind.) singled to left field scoring sophomore
Jake Brackett (Brownsburg, Ind.), 2-1.
Earlham tacked on one more run in the top of the eighth inning before the Panthers responded in the next half inning. Burton provided the RBI up the middle that scored Sherman to pull HC within 3-2. Hanover tied the contest in the bottom of the ninth inning as Littlefield went yard over the right field fence to tie the game at 3-3.
Sherman provided the walk-off RBI moments later as he plated the game winning run en route to the 4-3 victory.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, May 8 when they take on Franklin. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
