Baseball drops season finale with Franklin

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover baseball team dropped a pair of contests on Saturday afternoon with Franklin as the Grizzlies took game one 9-1 before winning the nightcap 10-4.

GAME ONE
Franklin surged ahead early as they plated four runs in the top of the first inning following a two-run homerun, 4-0.

They tacked on another run in the top of the third inning and two runs in the fourth inning for the 7-0 advantage.

Trailing 9-0, the Panthers looked to rally as senior Zeke Porta (Louisville, Ky.) singled before a junior Charlie Burton (Columbus, Ind.) strike to center field advanced Porta to scoring position. Porta reached home on the next at bat as freshman Alex Christie (Greenwood, Ind.) lined out to center field with a sacrifice fly, 9-1.

The Grizzlies deemed to much as they were able to retire the threat and secure the game one win.

GAME TWO
The Franklin pitching staff dominated much of game two as they held a no-hitter through seven complete innings. Franklin used the momentum to capture the 10-0 advantage.

The Grizzlies scattered 10 runs on 11 hits.

Hanover broke up the no-no in the bottom of the eighth inning as sophomore Jake Brackett (Brownsburg, Ind.) and freshman Eric Roudebush (New Palestine, Ind.) charted back-to-back singles. Burton scored the Panthers first run later in the inning as he charted an RBI following a base on balls. Christie added another run as he too drew a walk cutting the deficit to 10-2.

The bottom of the ninth inning saw the Blue and Red add another run as Roudebush doubled to left center plating a run, 10-3. The final blow came off the bat of Porta as Hanover fell in the nightcap 10-4.

Freshman Jordan Parker (Evansville, Ind.) got the start in game two pitching six complete innings surrendering five runs on six hits.

Hanover returns to action on Friday, May 14 when they compete as part of the opening weekend of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. The format will feature a play in weekend.
