Box Score HANOVER, Ind. – Hanover celebrated senior day on Saturday afternoon holding off the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan 10-8 in non-conference action.
Prior to the contest, HC recognized seniors
Charlie Burton (Columbus, Ind.) and
Andrew Littlefield (Louisville, Ky.).
Burton kicked off senior day quickly in the bottom of the first inning as he gave the Panthers the early 3-0 advantage with a homerun to left field that scored sophomore
Alex Christie (Greenwood, Ind.).
Hanover tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the second inning as Littlefield singled to right field scoring freshman
Sam Perkins (Louisville, Ky.) before a Christie sacrifice fly pushed the HC lead to 5-0.
The third inning would see the scoring frenzy continue as sophomore
Eric Roudebush (New Palestine, Ind.) hit a sacrifice fly to center field scoring junior
Jacob Dupps (Louisville, Ky.), 6-0. Perkins tacked on a Panther run with an RBI double to left field, before freshman
Jake Danneman (Edgewood, Ky.) tripled extending the Hanover lead to 8-0. Littlefield closed out the inning plating Danneman for the 9-0 advantage.
Hanover would add an insurance run in the fourth inning as Burton reached home on a wild pitch, 10-0.
However, OWU would steal a run back in the top of the fifth inning before adding another run in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit to 10-2.
They continued to chip at the Panther lead using a six run eighth inning to pull within 10-8.
However, junior
Charlie Joyce (Indianapolis, Ind.) was able to retire the side in the top of the ninth inning and secure the Panther victory.
Hanover returns to action on Sunday, March 27 when they complete their three game series with Ohio Wesleyan.
