Box Score HANOVER, Ind. – The Panthers (5-6 overall) scored early in the contest with Wabash to claim game one of a three game series over the Little Giants 9-6.
Senior
Matthew Alter (Indianapolis, Ind.) picked up the win on the hill throwing five complete innings with six strikeouts.
After giving up two runs in the top of the first inning the Panther offense responded. Junior
Alex Christie (Greenwood, Ind.) got the RBI train rolling as he doubled to left field scoring sophomore
Jake Danneman (Edgewood, Ky.). Junior Conner Farnsley (Jeffersonville, Ind.) scored the tying run as he hit a blooper down the right field line, 2-2.
Wabash added one run in the top of the second inning on two hits to reclaim the 3-2 lead.
The bottom half of the inning saw the Blue and Red push across the tying run as senior
Spencer Martinelle (Indianapolis, Ind.) was able to distract the Wabash pitcher and score sophomore
Grady Stickney (Cincinnati, Ohio). Danneman added another Panther run as a Wabash hiccup gave them the 4-3 advantage.
Hanover extended their lead in the bottom of the third inning as Danneman charted the RBI scoring sophomore
Reid Douglas (Rossville, Ind.). Christie added one more run on the next at-bat with a single to right field,
7-3.
The scoring frenzy ensued with Hanover adding an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning en route to the 8-3 lead.
Wabash attempted a late game rally plating three runs in the top of the eighth inning before Hanover retired the side.
Christie put the exclamation point on the contest in the bottom of the eighth inning as he sent a homerun over the left field tree line en route to the win.
Hanover returns to action on Sunday, March 19 when they conclude the three-game series with Wabash. The Senior Day celebration and first pitch is slated for 12:00 PM.
