CARMEL, Ind. – The no. 4 seed Hanover Panthers are set to compete in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament taking on the no. 5 seed Anderson at 1:15 pm on Thursday, May 7 at Kokomo Municipal Stadium.
ON THE MOUND
Senior
John Girard enters the weekend as one of the top slinger's among the HCAC. The left-handed pitcher is currently tied for the top spot in strikeouts looking with 27 and sits second in total strikeouts with 79. He ranks among the top 10 in fewest walks issued at 18.
Last weekend he became the Hanover all-time strikeout leader with 247 and counting, surpassing previous record holder Adam Christie from 2000-2003.
AT THE DISH
Senior
Josh Simpson has been a force at the plate ranking fifth in home runs with eight while sitting seventh with four sacrifice flies. He currently ranks ninth in total RBI with 37.
He is leading the team with 143 at-bats with 49 hits and 31 runs scored. Simpson has posted a .573 slugging percentage.
AROUND THE HORN
Freshman
Jack Shaeffer enters the HCAC Tournament as the top defensive threat with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
Senior
Trevor Jones has dominated at shortstop ranking fifth in fielding double play balls with 19 while also sitting seventh in assists at 89.
LAST HCAC TOURNAMENT BERTH
The Panthers return to the HCAC Tournament after their last visit came in 2024 fighting their way through the losers bracket to secure the program's first HCAC Crown. The Panthers and Ravens squared off in the Tournament with Hanover reigning victorious 6-1.
TRAVELING TO KOKOMO
The HCAC Tournament will be held at Kokomo Municipal Stadium in Kokomo, Ind. with the first game slated for 10:00 AM between no. 3 seed Rose-Hulman and no. 6 seed Franklin.
